Poultry

Domestic Poultry

You can keep poultry in the Central Highlands Municipality as long as they are kept at least 6 metres away from any dwelling and at least 1 metre away from a fence or boundary and are completely contained within your own boundary.

  • The structures, buildings, enclosures or areas that the poultry have access to must be maintained in a clean and sanitary condition.
  • Roosters should be housed at night in a covered pen to avoid early morning crowing and disturbing neighbours.
  • The owner is responsible for ensuring they do not cause a nuisance through smell, noise, rodents, flies or drainage and wondering onto property in other ownership.
  • For further information the DPIPWE website is available at: https://dpipwe.tas.gov.au/Documents/Backyard_Poultry.pdf
