 ## 2026–2027 Rates and Charges

Central Highlands Council rates are made up of several different charges. The amount you pay will depend on your property’s Assessed Annual Value, how the land is used, where it is located and the services available to the property. Assessed Annual Value, or **AAV**, is a property valuation used to help calculate rates. Your property’s AAV is shown on your Rates Notice. The AAV is determined by the Tasmanian Valuer General.

### General Rate

All rateable properties in the Central Highlands have:

- a General Rate of 2.6523398 cents for every dollar of the property’s AAV, plus
- a fixed charge of $515.28 for each rateable property.

### Wind Farms

Land used for private wind farm electricity generation has a different General Rate of:

- 99 cents for every dollar of AAV.

### Waste Management Charge

A **Waste Management Charge of $421** applies to rateable land within the municipality.

Different charges apply in some circumstances:

- Commercial properties receiving Council garbage and recycling collection: $745 per tenement.
- Commercial properties outside Council’s garbage and recycling collection area: $712.
- Residential, industrial, public, primary production, sporting and recreational, quarrying or mining properties outside the collection area: $281.
- Unused land outside the collection area: $169.

### Fire Service Contribution

Council collects a Fire Service Contribution through rates on behalf of the State.

For properties within the Bothwell Volunteer Brigade Rating District, the charge is:

- 0.29500 cents for every dollar of AAV, with a minimum charge of $52.

For properties elsewhere in the Central Highlands municipality, the charge is:

- 0.2672694 cents for every dollar of AAV, with a minimum charge of $52.
